Image missingConvert pictures and use them on Amstrad CPC

I propose a completely free software that allows you to create a DSK file compatible with any Amstrad CPC emulator. The software lets you select a 24-bit BMP image of any size (at least as large as the Amstrad’s resolution) and converts it to one of the following formats: 160×200 (Mode 0, 16 colors), 320×200 (Mode 1, 4 colors), or 640×200 (Mode 2, 2 colors). It then adds the converted image to the DSK file. The program also generates a Locomotive BASIC loader that defines the palette and automatically displays the image.

This software is useful, for example, if you want to program a game that includes your favorite pictures.

You can either:

  • Download the source here: ImageToCPC.cpp
To compile the file with Linux (I love Linux), simply type: g++ -o ImageToCPC ImageToCPC.cpp -O3
  • Download the executable for Windows here: ImageToCPC.exe
However some anti-virus software might wrongly claim that it is a virus (I hate Windows).
    Run it in command line.

The program has been successfully tested with Linux, Windows, and Mac.
